Time

I really did not mean for this much time to lapse before I updated the blog but some things happened over the past 10 days slowing me down.

On April 6 Mikey turned 10. Happy day, my baby is 10! We went to Sonic after school for a treat and then came home to get ready for soccer and ice his cake.

Then the call came. My Papa had a triple bypass that morning. His young 84 year old self needed a triple bypass just 2 years after having a heart attack and getting a shunt. During an annual check up with his cardiologist he learned the shunt had moved and needed to be placed back in the correct location. However, I suppose the doc suspected something else and they ran a dye test and discovered 2 more blocked arteries. The doc immediately scheduled the bypass and the first available date was Mikey's 10th birthday.

I couldn't ruin Mikey's day by scaring him with the news, so I ran to the bathroom to freshen up the face and then we headed off to soccer. I kept the news to myself....well, after sharing with M. At that moment I knew why my Grandma had asked my mom not to tell me until after his surgery was finished. She was protecting me just as I'd done my son. I admire that woman so much and love her even more.

He spent his days in ICU and after a few days was told he'd contracted TB. Not good considering his COPD, asthma & the fact he'd just survived a triple bypass. He was sad but held his faith and we received the news last night that he does NOT have TB and that he's been moved to a rehab facility to prepare for his homecoming in a few weeks. I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

So, getting back to the title of my post- Time.
I am blessed to have had every moment I've had with my only living grandparents.
I am blessed that all three of my children have a relationship with them and love them like I do.
I am sad to know that they will not be here forever but find comfort in knowing that one day we'll meet again.
After this scare it's really opened my eyes to time. Just "yesterday" I was birthing Mikey and today he is 10. Time really does fly.

On a scrappy note: When Mikey was getting ready to head to Austin with his class he asked to take my camera, the point & shoot, with him. After chatting with his teacher I let him take it. I asked him about his camera, a kiddie digital camera he'd gotten for Christmas a few years ago. He told me it wasn't working right so I looked at it. The flash washes out the image captured. Sometimes it completely whites it out, other times you get a faint image. The photo in the layout below came off of Mikey's camera. I had to change it to black & white so the red eyes wouldn't frighten anyone (I could not correct them for some reason) but I absolutely fell in love with this picture of Marissa & I from New Year's Eve 2008-09, her first New Year's celebration. The time is passing too quickly- none of my babies are babies anymore. The pictures I have of them as babies become more treasured with each passing day.

got soccer?

I eat, breathe, sleep and live soccer. It didn't happen overnight but making sense of how it all began has me scratching my head.

The boys started playing in Mexico and we put them on teams when we moved back to the US, 3 years ago.

2 years ago Mikey started playing 2 leagues.

This year DonDon started playing 2 leagues.

1.5 years ago M started playing co-ed.

6-9 months ago the women from M's co-ed team talked me into playing on their womens team. I suppose I did ok. I scored a goal in my first game and they asked me back for another season.
After my 1st womens season I was asked to play co-ed on M's 2nd team. That scared me but I did it. Then I was asked to be a sub on a M's original co-ed team.

Yesterday I had the bright idea to team up with one of Mikey's team mate's mom and us start our own team. We're rounding up other parents to form our team to start the next season in about 6 weeks. We've even talked Mikey's head coach, a former pro, to play with us. We may all get schooled but we will be having fun!

Look for a soccer LO soon & frequent updates on our teams!

Sharing

I love when MOJO visits and lately they've been hanging around. Thought I'd take a minute and share my latest creations! Thanks for stopping by!

Random Thoughts

Spring has arrived! Unfortunately so have my allergies.

Soccer is in full swing, including M &I. So far we've won all of our games. He plays 1, I play 1 & we play 1 together. Funny thing is I want to add a 3rd team to my schedule for the summer so I can play with some fellow soccer parents!

Got my new Food Network magazine today in the mail- looking forward to reading it! It says easy dinner recipes on the cover which is exactly what I need with all the soccer we play.

Tonight was Open House at the boys school. I walked in Mikey's classroom to learn he placed 2nd in the Science Fair!! Talk about a proud momma moment! Unfortunately I did not take pictures before I sent it to school so I can't scrap it just yet....but I will!!

Think I'm done for the night. Off to read my new mag and watch a few reruns of Criminal Minds- I LOVE this show!
